Georgia Family Connection turned 25 in 2016, so we’re taking you on a journey—region by region—throughout our anniversary year to show you the landscape for children and families across our state.
“A Taste of the Mountains,” is Tuesday, March 14th, 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the University of North Georgia Dining Hall, Dahlonega campus. The 19th annual “Taste” features over twenty Dawson and Lumpkin county restaurants. Samples from appetizers to desserts will be served by venues from fast food to fine dining.
“Taste” is the major fundraiser for Lumpkin County Family Connection (LCFC) and helps support the goals of preventing child abuse and neglect while helping all children in Lumpkin County succeed in school.
The event will likely sellout, so buy tickets soon. They are still just $15 for anyone over 12; $5 for ages 5-12 and children under the age of 5 eat free. Tickets are available at the Dahlonega-Lumpkin County Chamber of Commerce, Jolie Day Spa, or at the LCFC office.
“Everybody from babies to older adults love ‘A Taste of the Mountains,’ says Brigette Barker, Executive Director of LCFC. “We keep the prices low so lots of people can attend. We have restaurants that return every year. We love having a few new restaurants in the mix. Last year was the first time we had an ice cream truck. It was a big hit and is coming back! I guarantee attendees will have fun and will leave full!”
Participating restaurants are: Applebee’s, Aramark, Beautilicious Cakes, Capers on the Square, Chili’s, Dumond’s, Firehouse Subs, Foothills Fellowship/St. Ives, Fudge Factory, Grapevines, Johnny’s Pizza, Kani House, LaHacienda, McDonald’s, North Georgia Treats, Papa’s Place, Smokin Gold BBQ, Spirits Tavern, Starbucks, The Corner Kitchen, UNG Catering, Wal-Mart bakery, deli, and produce departments and Yahoola Creek Grill. Others may be added.
Besides ticket sales, “Taste” generates funds through a silent auction and sponsorships. This year’s silent auction offers more items than ever and includes tickets to the Alliance theater, Andretti Indoor Karting and Games, High Museum, Disney World, Dollywood, Gibbs Gardens, Georgia Racing Hall of Fame, NASCAR Hall of Fame, Tennesse Aquarium – just to name a few; Plus there is a swing made by Lumpkin County High School shop class, numerous restaurant gift certificates, gift items donated by local merchants and an overnight stay at Chateau Elan. Additional auction items will continue to come in.
If you can’t attend and would still like to support Family Connection, sponsorships are available from $50 to $500; or donations of any amount are accepted and appreciated. For information regarding sponsorships or tickets, please call the Lumpkin County Family Connection office at 706-864-6189 x. 41126.
